XP Power announces the launch of its new PGW and PGD series of 65W to 140W external AC-DC power supplies. The two series, comprising wall-mount (PGW65, PGW100) and desktop (PGD100, PGD140) options, are designed to conform to the Power Delivery (PD) protocol and are ideal for a wide range of industrial technology and BF-rated medical applications. The products are aimed at design engineers working on medical, home healthcare, and industrial technology equipment.
The PGW and PGD series use gallium nitride (GaN) based design enabling a compact and lightweight format. The typical power density for the PGW65 is 0.37W/cm³ (6.06W/in³), for the PGW100 is 0.53W/cm³ (8.72W/in³), for the PGD100 is 0.48W/cm³ (7.93W/in³), and for the PGD140 is 0.55W/cm³ (9.0W/in³). Weights range from approximately 220g (PGW65) to 380g (PGD140).
The power supplies are approved for worldwide medical and ITE safety by various safety agencies. They are certified to standards such as ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and EN60601-1, EN60601-1-11 for medical applications, and UL 62368-1, EN62368-1, IEC62368-1, CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 62368-1-14, CCC, and AU/NZS 62368.1 for IT equipment. The Class II construction and reinforced isolation provide enhanced safety in medical devices and household appliances. They feature 2 x MOPP isolation (4kVAC input to output) and 1 x MOPP isolation (1.5kVAC input to ground). Patient leakage current is low, typically 85µA, with a maximum of 100µA at 264VAC/60Hz. These medical safety features, isolation, and low leakage currents are key differentiators compared to some alternatives.
The PGW and PGD series conform to the Power Delivery protocol and meet USB PD 3.1/3.0 and QC4.0/3.0/2.0 fast charging protocols. Output voltages from 5V to 20VDC (PGD100, PGW65/100) or 5V to 28VDC (PGD140) are automatically selected based on the system’s charging requirements. The output connector is USB Type-C. The maximum output power is 65W (PGW65), 100W (PGD100, PGW100), and 140W (PGD140).
A wide 80V to 264VAC input range makes the power supplies suitable for universal use. The wall mount PGW65 and PGW100 models offer fixed or interchangeable US, UK, EU, AU, and CN mains connectors for global compatibility. The PGW and PGD series meet the Energy Efficiency Level VI (Level VII ready) and EU2019/1782 standards, helping to reduce waste heat, enabling a convection-cooled design that provides quiet operation with increased reliability. The no-load input power is less than 0.15W for optimal efficiency. Additionally, the gasketed design enables the units to meet the IP22 environmental rating.
The units feature Class B conducted and radiated emissions, complying with standards like EN55032/EN55011, which can eliminate the need for a separate EMC/EMI filter. The PGW and PGD series are also equipped with a local LED that will change colour and enter patterns of flashing to indicate the power supply status for three modes – standby, normal operation and fault. This provides instant visual confirmation, help in diagnostics and improve safety by alerting users to dangerous conditions. The series are well-suited for application areas including respiratory care, patient treatment, patient monitoring, hospital equipment, analytical instrumentation, imaging, and test & measurement.
The PGW and PGD series operate within a temperature range of 0 to +60°C, with output power derating linearly from 100% load at 40°C to 50% load at 60°C. Standard protections include overload, overvoltage (with auto-recovery), and short circuit (with trip and restart).
The PGW and PGD series are available from Avnet Abacus, Digi-Key, Distrelec, Farnell, Mouser, RS, TME, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power with a 3-year warranty.
