Diodes Zetex Semiconductors Limited, the UK subsidiary of Diodes Incorporated, has won the Best Environmental Practice Award for Large Companies in the annual Northwest Business Environment Awards 2010. Diodes received the award at a prize-giving ceremony at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester hosted by ENWORKS and the Northwest Regional Development Agency. The company is now eligible to represent the North West in the European Business Environment Awards. The award was made in recognition of a reduction in the carbon footprint of Diodes' Oldham based semiconductor wafer fabrication plant of more then 53% in less than 4 years; taking it from 30,660 to 14,418 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. A result of a broad range of company-wide initiatives, the reduction in carbon footprint was achieved through a 90% reduction in site emissions, a 31% reduction in water usage and effluent, a 23% reduction in electricity usage, a 7% reduction in gas consumption and a 15% reduction in waste. Kirsten Motyl, Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental Manager at Diodes said, "This award really does reflect the company's complete commitment to addressing environmental issues and the supreme hard work of the entire workforce in undertaking initiatives both large and small; from the consolidation of our wafer manufacturing lines to the organisation of a successful ride-to-work scheme."
