6000 MW Romanian windfarm scoops title from puny 322 MW Scottish site
Fantanele-Cogealac wind park of 240 2.5MW wind turbines, surpasses its Whitelee Windfarm rival in Scotland.

Located in the Romanian province of Dobruja, the €1.1 billion (£0.8bn) Fantanele-Cogealac wind park includes 240 2.5MW wind turbines, surpassing its rival the Whitelee Windfarm on Eaglesham Moor 20 minutes from central Glasgow, Scotland. With only 140 turbines it can only generate 322MW electricity to power 180,000. The 600MW onshore wind farm in Romania, now claimed to be the largest in Europe, is in full operation and has started producing clean energy. Fantanele-Cogealac is expected to generate power for more than one million households in Romania every year. Ondrej Safar, Project Manager at CEZ said: "The 2.5MW technology offers the efficiency, availability and energy performance that will safeguard our success. Thanks to the Fantanele/Cogealac wind farm, CEZ is making a major contribution to increasing Romania's renewable energy generation." He added Romania's installed wind capacity was only 14MW prior to this project. Whitelee Windfarm Fantanele-Cogealac
