Local Groups to protest Edison Headquarters over utility lobby's attacks on rooftop solar

    08/21/2013

A coalition of Latino groups, clean energy supporters, environmentalists, and health advocates will rally outside Southern California Edison's headquarters in Rosemead. The rally will protest the big utility's attacks on California families that go solar. The protest comes on the heels of the "SaveRooftopSolar.com" online petition recently launched featuring a video that Southern California Edison is demanding to be removed from YouTube. The protest is part of a statewide coalition campaign to push back against the big utilities' lobby targeting the Latino caucus in Sacramento to undermine the economic value of installing solar panels on homes. The protest will include a flyover sign above Edison's headquarters in Rosemead. AB 327, the current legislation introduced by Assembly member Henry T. Perea in the California state legislature represents the latest effort by the big utility lobby to curve the growth of rooftop solar. It would add significant fixed charges to energy bills for users in Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric territories. These fixed charges would amount to $10 a month, or $120 annually, and could not be avoided by conserving energy or using rooftop solar energy. California is the nation's leading market on solar.
