    New requirements are applicable for toys with integrated electromagnetic field source

    Main changes to Toy Electrical Standard EN 62115

    07/06/2015

    New requirements are applicable for toys with integrated electromagnetic field source. They will come into force from 3 June 2017.

    Main Changes to Toy Electrical Standard EN 62115

    Major Changes in Amendment A12

    - Marking and instructions: When the markings or instructions included in 7.4 are present only on the packaging, there must be a statement on the packaging to retain the packaging because it contains important information.

    - Heating and abnormal operation: Each low-power circuit is short-circuited by connecting the low-power point to the pole of the power supply from which the measurements are made. If this short circuit results in a hazardous condition, the short circuit is removed and the tests of 9.8.2 a) to f) are applied to the relevant low-power circuits.

    - Construction: The content of the former note Z1 (see below) is incorporated in clause 14.10 as part of the requirement. "Connectors (jack plugs, USB plugs, RCA phono plugs etc.) with a diameter or diagonal measurement between 3.75 mm and 5.25 mm and length greater than 7 mm are considered to fail this requirement."

    - Toys with an integrated field source: Toys with an integrated field source generating Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) shall comply with EN 62233:2008 with the following modifications: Toys without a motor, inductor or which only include passive electronic components, are considered to comply with this requirement without measurement. The requirements do not apply to parts of toys consuming a current of 3 A or less. In EN 62233:2008, A.2.3 "Measuring distances and sensor location", add the following to the list below, before the row for "transformers for toys":

    * Toys or parts of toys, intended to be used close to the body: 0 - all surfaces - continuously - 0.18
    * Toys or parts of toys, hand-held: 15 - all surfaces - continuously - 0.18
    * Toys or parts of toys, other: 30 - all surfaces - continuously - 0.18
