    02/19/2016

The Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) Safety & Compliance Technical Committee is sponsoring the first-ever APEC Industry Session dealing with important safety and compliance issues affecting power electronics professionals. The session will take place at APEC 2016 on Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, California.

The upcoming “Safety and Compliance” session (IS-13) features six industry experts who will provide insights into product safety standards and the ever-changing landscape of global compliance. The session is designed to include ample time for audience participation during the Q&A following each talk.

    The session papers are:
“Surges and Transients Can't Read Specifications - How to Meet Specifications and Protect Against Real-World Threats”
“Component Level Safety Certification in Systems IEC60747-17/ UL1577”
“Introduction to EMC and EMC Standards”
“A Primer on Type Testing of Power Converters”
“IEC 60601-1-2 4th Edition 2014 - EMC for Medical Electrical Equipment and Systems”
“Sources for Regulatory Information and Related Search Techniques - How to Find Safety and Compliance Information”

PSMA Safety & Compliance co-chairs, Kevin Parmenter of Excelsys Technologies and Jim Spangler of Spangler Prototype, issued a joint statement about the session: “The design engineer is faced with new and changing regulatory standards for power conversion products and systems. Attendees at this session should come away with new approaches for dealing with a number of compliance issues. And as important resource, the last paper of the session will address where and how to find the various standards.”

APEC Industry Sessions provide an opportunity for attendees to interact with other professionals who are active in specific areas of the power electronics industry and to learn about innovative technologies key to successfully supporting their markets. The PSMA Safety & Compliance Committee encourages attendees of APEC 2016 to attend this informative Industry Session and to consider participating in the other PSMA-sponsored meetings during the week.
