PSMA to offer APEC session on isolation barrier technologies

    02/24/2017

At APEC 2017, the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) Safety & Compliance Technical Committee will hold the Industry Session: “Isolation Barrier Technologies.” Offering speaker presentations by six industry experts, Session IS14, will take place on Thursday, March 30th, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Tampa Convention Center.

New isolation barrier technologies, including capacitive/semiconductor, magnetic and optical, are being developed for a wide range of power electronics applications. In addition, both existing and new technologies are being used in general-purpose isolation, industrial, motor drives, gate driver isolation applications – and all must meet a plethora of regulatory agency approvals that can include intrinsic safety barrier isolation in addition to IEC and UL requirements.

Co-chairs of the PSMA Safety & Compliance Committee, Kevin Parmenter of Excelsys Technologies and Jim Spangler of Spangler Prototype, put out this joint statement: “This will be a great forum for contrasting and comparing the differences of historical and recent developments of all the available isolation barrier technologies. We have assembled an impressive cadre of technical and applications experts from all the leading companies who will be able to answer questions on the spot.”

The PSMA Safety & Compliance Committee encourages attendees of APEC 2017 to attend this informative Industry Session and to consider participating in the other PSMA-sponsored meetings during the week.
