The European Commission published Communication 2013/C 169/01 (1) in the Official Journal of the European Union. The document references the standard EN 50242:2008 - "Electric dishwashers for household use - Methods for measuring the performance" - as a harmonized standard. --- The Communication was published in the framework of the implementation of Regulation (EU) No 1016/2010 from 10 November 2010, implementing Directive 2009/125/EC with regard to ecodesign requirements for household dishwashers and Regulation (EU) No 1059/2010 which supplements Directive 2010/30/EU concerning energy labeling of household dishwashers. Ecodesign for Energy Efficient Dishwashers The EN 50242:2008 standard relates to household electric dishwashers supplied with hot and/or cold water and outlines performance characteristics and standard methods for testing them. Safety or performance requirements of such products do not fall under this standard. Directive 2010/30/EU creates a framework for labeling and standard product information relating to energy consumption with the goal of enabling end users to select more efficient household products. Ecodesign Standards and Dishwasher Energy Consumption Compliance with this new harmonized standard also presumes conformity with Regulation 1016/2010, which relates to ecodesign standards for household dishwashers and details energy and water consumption requirements in the use phase. The implementation of requirements relating to the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI), the Cleaning Efficiency Index (CEI) and the Drying Efficiency Index (DEI) should not affect the functionality of the dishwasher or negatively impact the health and safety of the end user or the environment.
