Wurth Electronics' WE-MAPI metal alloy power inductor

Wuerth's WE-MAPI series claims smallest metal alloy power inductor available

    06/09/2014

Wuerth Electronics' WE-MAPI series is presented as the smallest metal alloy power inductor in the market, measuring just 1.6 x 1.6 x 1.0mm. WE-MAPI inductors from Wuerth are equipped with a magnetic iron alloy core material, which allows for high rated currents in an ultra compact design. The saturation current of the WE-MAPI is four times greater than other components of similar size; this along with very low DCRs allow for optimum efficiency in high switching frequency DC/DC converters (>1MHz). Interference noise does not occur since the casing is compressed from a single piece (see drawing). Other features of WE-MAPI inductors include low acoustic noise and low leakage flux noise, with industrial operating temperatures of -40 ◦C to 125 ◦C.

    Features
*Innovative pad model with solder or weld point » prevents breaks or short circuits in the wire.
*High package density » pre-compressed casing prevents material cracking in core and reduces stray field.
*The coplanarity of the WE-MAPI is better than that of coils with clip (component connection).
*Magnetic iron alloy allows high rated currents
    *Compact design
    *Magnetically shielded
    *High current capability
    *Handles high transient current spikes
*Low acoustic noise and low leakage flux noise
*Operating temperature range: -40°C to +125°C

    Applications
DC/DC-converter for high current power supplies
DC/DC-converter for Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
    POL-converters
Portable power like PDA, digital camera
    Digital camera
    Mainboards/graphic cards
    Battery powered devices
