Tesla has set a new record for electric vehicles with its next-gen Roadster, with a ludicrous 620 mile range between charges. But all this muscle won’t come cheap – the new Roadster will set you back $200,000.

The company actually revealed the Roadster alongside its brand new electric big rig, no slouch, itself, with a range of 500 miles. And while both will make Mother Nature giddy, they won’t play nice with your pocketbook.

Like previous Tesla models, the next-gen Roadster is squarely aimed at wealthy eco-warriors. Of course, anyone who can plunk down 200K for a car can probably afford multiple vehicles (so the Roadster’s absurd range is a bit superfluous), but the environment can’t tell the difference.

And the newest environmental status symbol is worth every penny -- the Roadster’s stats are pretty sexy. Apart from its range, the Roadster can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 mph.

“You’ll be able to travel from LA to San Francisco, and back, at highway speed without recharging. The point of doing this is to just give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars,” boasted Tesla’s illustrious CEO, Elon Musk. “Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche.”

The new Roadster will roll out in 2020.
