One of the keys for EVs’ continued expansion into the mainstream is the proper infrastructure. And the UK just got a little more electrified with the installation of 142 charging spaces at the University of Warwick.

As-is, the UK (and Europe, in general) has a very healthy and expansive EV charging network – according the International Energy Agency (IEA), public charging points grew more than 35% year-over-year in 2024, reaching about 1 million.

And while China still apparently has 65% of the charging points (and 60% of the electric light-duty vehicle stock) worldwide, and the People’s Republic is responsible for 80% of the global growth in fast-charging deployments, Europe is making big strides.

UK charge point operator Zest began their project with the University of Warwick a year ago, and the new additions include “both fast and rapid EV chargers” and should allegedly reduce 15,000 tons of CO₂ over its lifetime.

“We are pleased to have worked with Zest to deliver this important step in our journey towards more sustainable transport on campus,” said George Saxon, Head of Transport Systems & Operations at the University of Warwick.

“By delivering one of the largest university charging networks in the UK, we’re making it easier than ever for people to switch to electric vehicles, added Zest CEO Robin Heap.

Moreover, this is a long-term commitment on the part of Zest, which will be responsible for the chargers for 15 years.
