Acer just unveiled a solution for all those weirdos who like to work and work out at the same time.

At CES 2023, the Taiwanese multinational electronics corporation divulged an exercise bike that doubles as a work desk and charges your portable devices.

To be clear, none of this technology is all that revolutionary – bike generators (the electric devices, not the lights) have been around forever, with the typical setup able to produce about 100 watts.

It’s a green way to convert kinetic energy into usable electricity, able to power small objects like a lightbulb or bank energy for later.

Exercise bikes are also pretty far from new, though the idea of a work desk/bike hybrid is fairly novel, and under-desk bike peddlers is definitely a millennial trend. Certainly not for those of us who’ll do anything, including work, to avoid exercise.

Combining all those things with a handy way to charge your voluminous portable devices (so you can stay connected 24/7) is the sort of synergy that could only exist in the 21st century – and recently, at that, with our 85% smartphone ownership rate.

Acer’s eKinekt BD 3 bike desk is a desk combined with a stationary bike “to empower sustainable and healthier lifestyles.”

It includes two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, a bag hook, and a beverage holder, and one hour of constant cycling at 60 RPM on the bike desk can generate 75 watts.

You can switch between work mode, where the desk surface is closer to the chair, allowing you to sit upright, and sport mode, where the desk top is further forward.

The eKinekt BD 3 bike desk will be an immediate no-go for anyone who likes to lounge in a comfy office chair (like yours truly), since the included chair is exactly what you’d expect from an exercise bike.

But if you’d like to keep fit, work, charge your devices, and you’ve got a spare $999, the eKinekt BD 3 bike desk is a good way to abet your slightly-insane synergistic lifestyle.
