Google Co-Founder Sponsors New Air Taxi

Another player has thrown their hat in the air taxi race, and this one has star power behind it. Backed by Google co-founder Larry Page, Kitty Hawk recently unveiled the Cora, an autonomous, electric VTOL aircraft.

Like many prospective air taxis, the Cora is designed to be widely accessible – “An air taxi so personal and so simple it could take the trips you make everyday, the ones that define our lives, and bring them to the sky,” according to Kitty Hawk’s website.

And while Kitty Hawk hasn’t discussed pricing specifics, the Cora appears to be in line with Uber’s plans to make “UberAir” as affordable as Uber X.

The Cora will have an electric range of 62 miles, putting it right in line with the MOBi-ONE and UberAir. And while Kitty Hawk’s flying creation won’t win any beauty contests – it looks like an ugly mishmash of a car and a V-22 Osprey – but that’s not really the point of flying taxis, which are designed to be affordable and widely accessible. Wealthy patrons can just catch private jets without worrying about mass transit, air or ground.
